Halloween Half Term in Southend
Halloween's creeping closer, and the big question is back: how are you going to keep the kids entertained for a whole week?
Luckily, Southend has plenty of tricks (and treats!) up its sleeve this October half term. From pumpkin picking and spectacular circus performances to seaside adventures, spooky surprises and delicious family-friendly dining, there's something to keep little monsters of all ages happy.
Whether you're planning a full day out or just looking for a few hours of fun, here's our pick of the best things to do in Southend this Halloween half term.

Frightfully Fun Halloween Events
Get ready for a spook-tacular Halloween! We're going all out in Southend this year, with a whole host of events for families to enjoy.
One of the biggest highlights is the Southend Halloween Parade, returning on Saturday 31 October. Taking place on Halloween night itself for the very first time, this free seafront spectacular promises illuminated displays, incredible costumes, live music and plenty of weird and wonderful characters. Running from 6pm to 7.45pm, it's the perfect excuse to get the whole family dressed up and soak up the spooky atmosphere.
If your little ones love a thrill, Adventure Island's Fright Fantastic is back from 24 October to 1 November. Expect Halloween entertainment, trick-or-treating, a treasure hunt, free face painting and a best-dressed competition, alongside all those fantastic rides.
And for something a little different, The Revel Puck Circus returns to Chalkwell Park from 23 October to 1 November. Their spectacular show, The Wing-Scuffle Spectacular, combines jaw-dropping acrobatics, daring stunts and laugh-out-loud comedy. It's an exciting, screen-free treat for the whole family.
Pumpkins, monsters and magical adventures
Fancy getting into the Halloween spirit without too many frights?
Head to Prittlewell Priory's Pumpkin Patch & Petting Farm on 24 and 25 October, where the beautiful grounds will be transformed into an autumn wonderland. Pick your perfect pumpkin, meet adorable farmyard friends (including alpacas and miniature ponies!) and enjoy children's activities, crafts and games.
Over at Scott's Family Halloween Party, running on selected sessions from 23 to 30 October, families can enjoy animal encounters, spooky characters, Halloween games, a disco and a visit to the pumpkin patch. Fancy dress is very much encouraged!
Meanwhile, the monsters have taken over Southend Pier! From 23 October to 1 November, young explorers can take part in the Pier Monster Hunt, searching for colourful characters hidden around the pier head. Activity sheets cost just £2.50 per child, plus the usual pier admission, and there's a prize waiting at the finish.
For another outdoor adventure, Garon Castle Adventures is getting a Halloween makeover from 26 October to 1 November. Putt your way around the spooky adventure golf course, complete with pumpkins, creepy characters and a few surprises along the way.
Get crafty (and a little messy!)
If your children love making things, there's plenty of hands-on Halloween fun to enjoy.
The Ironworks is hosting a series of creative activities at Leigh Community Centre, including a Halloween Cupcake Workshop on 26 October, a Children's Halloween Party on 28 October, and Halloween Lantern Making on 30 October.
For curious little wildlife lovers, Spooky Animal Encounters at Belfairs Nature Discovery Centre on 28 October offers a chance to meet fascinating creatures and discover more about the animal kingdom.
Places for some activities are limited, so booking ahead is recommended.

Big Days Out (Whatever the Weather!)
Not everything has to be about Halloween! Southend is packed with family attractions that make keeping the kids entertained a whole lot easier.
Discover underwater worlds and seaside adventures
If the autumn weather isn't playing nicely, take the family to Sealife Adventure. With sharks, penguins, otters, tropical fish and even an immersive dinosaur experience, there's plenty to discover.
For a classic seaside adventure, you can't beat a trip along Southend Pier. Hop aboard the pier train or wrap up warm for a stroll along the world's longest pleasure pier. Enjoy the sea air, take in the views and stop for a little treat at the pier head.
And if you've got budding historians in the family, why not explore Central Museum, wander through the historic rooms of Southchurch Hall, or discover the fascinating history of Prittlewell Priory?

Make the most of the great outdoors
Autumn is a brilliant time to explore Southend's coastline, parks and open spaces. Pull on your wellies, wrap up warm and get some fresh sea air with a family walk along the beach.
From exploring rock pools to collecting colourful leaves in the park, some of the best family memories don't have to cost a penny.

Over in Leigh-on-Sea, Lemon Witch is perfect for a sweet treat. With freshly made crêpes, pancakes, spectacular freakshakes and warming drinks, it's an ideal stop after a busy morning of adventures.
