Touch Talk Tour
Focal Point Gallery are delighted to be working with Sound Scribe and are pleased to invite you to a special event at Focal Point Gallery on Monday 24 August, 2.00pm to 4.30pm. Join them to explore their current exhibition, Rosie Ridgway, Phantom Power, the artist’s first solo exhibition in the UK. The afternoon will include a touch tour of selected artworks, followed by a Q&A session exploring our recorded Audio Description Guides and how they enrich the gallery experience. Meet the team and the artist behind the project, ask questions, and discover more about the gallery.
Comprising all new work, this exhibition brings together interactive film, sound, costume and performance. A fictional band rehearsing a song becomes the catalyst to think about the collective process of making together and the unpredictability of human interaction within an imperfect world. Each gallery therefore becomes a space to play, collaborate and interact.
Akin to a video game, in gallery one you can use a game console to select 5 of Ridgway’s real-life collaborators from a cohort of 12. Your selected 5 band members will perform variations on melodic themes on chunky TV monitors, which in turn are beset by interruptions from a roguish character dancing across a slanted 3-screen installation. A billboard-sized portrait of the 12 collaborators is self-narrated by each band member. And a second gallery is kitted out as an impromptu rehearsal room, inviting visitors to become creators. A range of instruments are free to use including an electronic drumkit, theremin, keyboard and bass guitar.
