Museum Half Term Day

Join Southend Museums on February 15th for a day at Southend Central Museum filled with workshops, activities and free tours of our exhibitions! Whether you’re curious about prehistory or our new EKCO exhibition – there’s something for everyone to explore.

Please check which activities require pre-booking. All activities are free of charge apart from the Soap Knapping workshops, which are £2.50/person.

Please see a schedule of the day below:

11:30 – 12:30: Prehistory Soap Knapping Workshop. Led by our Archaeology Curator, feel, hear and learn about different flint tools! Afterwards, you will have the chance to make your own flint tool from soap, using the original knapping technique from prehistoric times. Please book this workshop by clicking here.

12:00 – 12:30: EKCO Tour. Join us on an exciting tour uncovering the history of 100 years of EKCO in Southend. Please pre-book your tour space via the link below.

13:00 – 13:30: EKCO Object Handling Workshop. This is a drop-in session led by our Curator for Material Culture. Using real museum objects, hear more stories about Southend’s EKCO company and how radios work!

14:00 – 15:00: Public Planetarium show. Please see our website on how to book this show.

14:00 – 15:00: Prehistory Soap Knapping Workshop.

15:30 – 16:00: EKCO Object Handling Workshop.

16:00 – 16:30: Prittlewell Prince Tour. Discover the Prittlewell Princely burial and the finds that were uncovered.

There will also be free colouring activities available, as well as an EKCO kids trail for the exhibition!
