‘Fun with Phonics’ Ages 4-6 (Hosted by Explore Learning)

Learning covered in the workshop:

  • Read and understand simple sentences.
  • Use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately.
  • Use phonic knowledge to write words in ways that match their spoken sounds.
  • Write simple sentences that can be read by themselves and others.
  • Apply phonic knowledge and skills as the route to decode words.
  • Respond speedily with the correct sounds to graphemes (letters or groups of letters) for all 40+

phonemes, including, where applicable, alternative sounds for graphemes.

  • Spell words containing each of the 40+ phonemes.

Lizard Card Achievement Aims

  • State a pair of words that rhyme to your tutor.
  • Show a tutor how you can segment a word.
  • Work well in pairs and individually.
  • Complete activities with your best work.

Structure

This workshop aims to motivate children to identify sounds, blend, and segment and begin to write. It is suitable for Reception and Y1 children in England and Wales or P1 and P2 children in Scotland who are still working on phonics.
