Learn to weave off-loom (away from the loom) with Sarah Ward. Sarah will be demonstrating how to create simple weavings around small wooden bases with needle and thread. Many found objects can be used as a base for weaving; wood, slate, old tiles, rocks and stones.
Off-loom weaving is a great starting point for those interested in learning to weave on a loom, as it helps us to understand the basics of woven structure, without the complexity of the loom. During the workshop, Sarah will demonstrate how to weave a simple twill, a zig zag, and a dogtooth pattern. We will start off with paper weaving, and then move on to weaving with needle and thread.
All materials are provided but if you would like to bring anything of your own to use, this is also welcomed. This craft is suitable for all levels, whether you are a total beginner or have some level of experience. There will also be the opportunity to try some loom weaving!
