Our art history tours cover topics such as: Queer History, Art History 101, and Beecroft – A History!

Art History 101:
Led by one of our Visitor Engagement Officers, this tour explores the history of art and art genres. Perfect for those looking for an introduction to the wonderful world of art!

• These tours must be pre-booked and tickets are £5/person. Each ticket includes a free hot drink.
• We recommend a minimum age of 7 years due to the length and content of the tour. Please book the amount of tickets equal to the number of people in your group.

A Walk Through Queer History:
Learn about art history, historic legends and stories with a queer twist .
This tour will give an introduction to LGBT-themed collections in Southend Central Museum and the Beecroft Art Gallery, exploring the history and narratives behind them. Hear fascinating tales of love and romance from our engaging tour guide and marvel at the histories behind the artefacts on display!

• The tour is 45 minutes in total, after which you will have a chance to enjoy a free coffee in the Beecroft Art Gallery seating area.
• These tours must be pre-booked and tickets are only £5/person.
We recommend a minimum age of 12 years due to the length and content of the tour.
• Please book the amount of tickets equal to the number of people in your group.
• The tour will start from the Central Museum main atrium.

Beecroft – A History!:

Led by one of our Visitor Engagement Officers, this tour explores the history and architectural design features of both the old and new Beecroft Art Galleries. Learn about Walter Beecroft, the founder of the original gallery; and Fritz Stellar, the sculptor who designed the iconic 1970s wall.

• These tours must be pre-booked and tickets are £5/person. Each ticket includes a free hot drink.
• We recommend a minimum age of 7 years due to the length and content of the tour. Please book the amount of tickets equal to the number of people in your group.
