Big Screen Southend is a purpose-built display screen that opened in 2013 for the presentation of artist commissions, live transmissions, and short and feature films relative to the cultural context of Southend, South Essex, and further afield. A quarterly programme of curated or newly commissioned artist moving image is screened daily in the public setting of Elmer Square, adjacent to Focal Point Gallery.

Recent commissions or group screenings have included work by Hannah Black, Hazel Brill, Phil Coy, Benedict Drew, Jefford Horrigan, Georgia Lucas-Going, Nikhil Vettukattil, and Renee Vaughan Sutherland. Big Screen Southend accepts artist submissions on an on-going basis to be considered for future public programmes.

Big Screen Southend is a partnership project between Focal Point Gallery, University of Essex, South Essex College and Southend-on-Sea Borough Council.
