Journey with us from the Beecroft Art Gallery into the darkest corners of the cosmos, as part of our free, four part lecture series ‘The Science of Space’.
The first lecture in our ‘Science of Space’ series is ‘Building a Universe from Scratch: Seeing the World as a Particle Physicist’. What is the Universe made of? How did it begin? Will we ever illuminate the secret of Dark Matter? In this lecture we will zoom in on matter, examining the subatomic world of elementary particles. We will discuss some of the open problems in particle physics; including the mysterious nature of Dark Matter, and physicists’ failure to combine gravity with quantum theory.
This talk is accessible for ages 10+. Older children and adults will enjoy this talk, children younger than 10 are welcome, but some may struggle with understanding the content.
Tickets are free, but prebooking is recommended. Please note that tickets are per person attending the talk. Every attendee will need a ticket.
Robert Clemenson is a theoretical physics researcher and lecturer based at the University of Sussex and Royal Holloway, University of London. His research focusses on models of the Universe involving extra spatial dimensions, and dark matter.
