Laugh Your Way to Better Health: John Ryan at The Head Shed

Garon Park Shed, a small community organisation based in Southend, is hosting a special event called The Head Shed, during Mental Health Awareness Week, to raise awareness about mental health and wellbeing.

The event will feature renowned Essex comic, John Ryan, who will deliver his unique take on health and wellbeing with stand-up routines that will leave attendees in stitches while also imparting valuable insights.

Taking place on Wednesday 17th May at The Boundary in Garon Park, Southend, attendees can expect to enjoy hilarious stories and messages delivered in John’s unforgettable style. But it’s not all laughs, as attendees will also learn more about their own mental and physical health.

Event organiser and Ambassador for the UK Men’s Sheds Association, Ian Bysouth, who’s passionate about the positive impact that Sheds can have on communities, said:

“I firmly believe that Sheds are a superb asset to any community by becoming a hub for different and diverse people.

“I have seen first-hand the positive impact Garon Park Shed has had on our members.

“John’s approach is far more accessible for people, especially men, than most standard health messages.

“Men can sometimes be reserved about discussing health matters, but John helps break down the taboos around admitting something is wrong and seeking support.”

The Head Shed event is not just about comedy; it’s also an opportunity for ‘Shedders’ from Sheds across the Essex network to join in discussion, updates, and peer support at the Essex Shed Network Forum, which will take place at the venue before John’s set.

Included in the ticket price of £5 is a hog-roast bap along with a veggie option, kindly provided by a supporter of Garon Park Shed, Rickey Dennis of The Hog Roast Company. There is also a paid bar for refreshments.

Tickets can be purchased via Eventbrite at The Head Shed or at the door (cash only). The event is open to everyone, so come along on May 17th from 12:30 for an experience not to be missed and support Garon Park Shed in raising awareness of mental health.
