Talking Toolkit – Speaking with My Child

Chalkwell Hall
12.00 pm to 2.00 pm
Part of Raising Southend: A Festival of Conversations

Taking place as part of the A Better Start Southend Festival of Conversations taking place across Southend from 12-26 October for families with children up to 4-years-old, and early years’ professionals.

Pre-booking required.

In partnership with the team from Safe Steps. Having difficult conversations is just as important as any, in ensuring your child stays happy, healthy and safe. This session tackles the sensitive subject of domestic abuse, supporting mothers on how to have appropriate conversations with their children about behaviours and feelings in line with domestic abuse experiences.

The sessions have been designed to be inclusive for all parents, delivering a creative session demonstrating effective tools for any parent seeking to find alternative ways of communicating with their child. Although Safe Steps use some of these techniques in its delivery of domestic abuse recovery work, they are universal tools.

Sharing tools on how to communicate with your child, while encouraging them to express emotions and feelings, can help protect and educate your child. We will also discuss the skills we might need to identify these situations. Practical takeaway toolkits will be provided and questions that can be used in the privacy of your own home.

Creche facilities on offer. This session is open to all Southend parents and carers with children under 4 years old. Pre-registration is required.

Accessible parking, toilet and baby changing facilities are available.
