Come and learn how to weave! During these Sunday workshops we will try lots of different types of weaving – from colourful paper weaving, to frame weaving, we’ll weave around wood, tiles and twigs, using a fabulous array of colourful yarns that have all been rescued from landfill.
We’ll have a go at weaving on a beautiful 1940’s wooden loom, and we’ll make colourful yarn windings to hang on the wall!
We’ll play with colour and texture, learning new ways to explore textiles in a creative way, but most of all, we’ll have fun! The kids will come away with some fabulous artworks, and a new skill to take forward into their future.

About the Artist
Sarah Ward is an Essex based weaver, teacher, and environmental activist. The main focus of Sarah’s work is to share knowledge through craft. She uses her woven work to advocate weaving as an art form in its own right, but also to raise awareness about waste, and the textile industry’s impact on our planet and its inhabitants. Having taught adults for many years, Sarah recently started teaching weaving to children at The Brady Arts & Community Centre in Whitechapel, and is delighted to meet the local children at Focal Point Gallery.

Please note, parents are to leave children at this workshop with a DBS checked artist for the full two-hours in which the space is closed to the public. Please complete the form in full in order to attend. A break of around ten minutes will take place in the middle of each workshop, in which participants may have a snack and a drink. Please do not bring any snack that contains nuts.
