Explore Southend’s Own Queer History & Share Your Stories in a Character Generation Workshop with Amy Pennington
Become part of the upcoming local queer history project ‘Southend’s Twilight Worlds’!
Join artist Amy Pennington to become part of an upcoming film commission exploring Southend’s own queer history. Amy will be taking on the role of a TV presenter for the film and wants to workshop characters with local residents who wish to share their stories of being queer in the area. We welcome people to attend the workshop who want to come and share their own experiences, but also those who want to come and generate characters with Amy based upon their stories. The character’s participants generated during the workshop can be worked into the film and they will have the opportunity to perform within the film.
Elliot Gibbons will then share archival research which is informing the film commission, as well as the exhibition and book project it is a part of. Participants will be introduced to several clippings spanning from the enactment of the Sexual Offences Act in 1967 to the present day. These will provide a basis for a group discussion as well as short writing exercises deconstructing and rewriting the archive. Each of the responses produced in these sessions will have the opportunity to be published within a publication on Southend’s queer history this July!
RSVP by emailing email@example.com, or simply drop by from 11am to 4pm on Saturday the 28th!
