Open Arts Exhibition

Beecroft Art Gallery
11.00 am to 5.00 pm

Open Arts is a community arts and wellbeing programme, which helps participants to manage their mental health.

On completion of a recent course participants were given the opportunity to continue to work together on a project with local artist, Sally Chinea. Sallys’ practice of working with and reusing found objects. A piece that inspired by our natural world and the green spaces in our area.

28 took up the challenge! Participants were invited to bring in any unwanted clothing or textiles that were special to them and that could be included, we were to embark on making a quilt together.

Over the course of six weeks we explored a wide variety of different fabric process, from natural dying, marbling, lino cutting and various printing methods to stitch and text/image transfer. Enabling us to transform the unwanted into something now valued, value simply added by the investment of time and labour, into the piece on display in the gallery.
