Creative Open Day – Reimagining Surveillance with DIY Data Tools

Running 11am to 3pm, this is drop in session. Stay for as long or as little time as you like.

For all ages.

Ever feel like you’re being watched? From facial recognition vans on the high street to algorithms on your smart devices, we are surveilled more and more. Our behaviours, bodies, habits, and emotions are captured and used for making predictions. But how does increasing surveillance in the digital age change and impact us, our communities and the society we live in? Where is the public voice in shaping why, how, and where surveillance happens?

How can we reimagine what surveillance might be in 2030 and 2100, centring our voices, hopes and dreams?

Join Focal Point Gallery for an interactive and hands-on FREE Creative Open Day led by artist Gigi G, where we’ll get curious about surveillance technologies in fun, experimental, and unexpected ways! Forget fancy computers or AI cameras—this is all about playful, DIY inventions using colourful and crafty materials. Build your own surveillance “tools”, design hands-on data collection gadgets, and chat about your creations and imaginations.

With our very own DIY non-surveillance van, and data collection sheets – spend the day in a different kind of way.

This session is open to all—no tech skills are needed; just curiosity! Stick around to see the wild and creative inventions people come up with by the end of the day.

No booking required—just drop in and get creative!
