Concert Series: Apollo5 – Vocal Ensemble

Southend Christian Fellowship Plaza Centre

Critically acclaimed a cappella five-piece Apollo5 is one of Britain’s smallest but most formidable vocal groups. Comprising a soprano, mezzo-soprano, two tenors and a bass, the ensemble – which takes its name from the ancient Greek god of music – has become known for its rich, dynamic sound, demonstrating how powerful five voices alone can be. With a versatile approach to music programming, and a repertoire spanning renaissance, classical and contemporary choral works to folk, jazz and pop, the group’s five voices bring the music of five centuries to life. Apollo5 is part of the VOCES8 Foundation and are based at the VOCES8 Centre.

Invocations was born out of Apollo5’s desire to share fragments of their life stories with audiences.
Weaving together such cherished songs as Your Song by Elton John, George and Ira Gershwin’s Summertime, and the classic swing tune, Fly Me to the Moon, along with existing and also newly composed material in a wide range of musical styles, an exciting and evocative programme has been created to include:-
Ubi Caritas – Ola Gjeilo
The last rose of summer – Fraser Wilson
Summertime – George and Ira Gershwin
Agnus Dei – William Byrd
Your Song – Elton John
