Contemporary Elders Workshop
Focal Point GalleryContemporary Elders is open to anyone over the age of 60. We challenge and liberate the term ‘elder’ from ‘elderly’ and encourage us to embrace wisdom as a path to growing whole, not old.
The Contemporary Elders programme consists of workshops, guided tours, walks and social meetups to join like-minded elders together to break down barriers, encourage life-long learning and enjoyment of the arts in all its forms.
Contemporary Elder’s programme will take place on the penultimate Saturday of each month and we are always welcome to new people. Morning or afternoon sessions available.
Whether you are new to contemporary art or a regular gallery attendee, you are welcome.
In this month’s session on Saturday 21 June, participants will review and work with their printed portraits, arranged in a zine layout. Some written pieces will be included alongside the images. The session concludes with an introduction to the Pamphlet Stitch Bookbinding technique, allowing participants to assemble their own handmade photo album using their portraits and stories. By the end of the workshop, each person will leave with a completed publication that reflects their creative process.
No prior experience needed! Reserve your place today by calling 01702 534108, emailing us at focalpointgallery@southend.gov.uk, or visiting the gallery to chat with our team.
