Hares about Town

Hares About Town is a spectacular public art event that is weaving its way across Southend this summer. 30 huge hare sculptures, each one individually designed by an artist, have formed a free family-friendly trail of discovery for you to explore! The hares are in place for ten weeks and are dotted all around the town!

In addition to the big hare sculptures there are over 50 Leverets (baby hares) that have been designed and created by over 40 schools and community groups across the Borough. The Leverets form their own trail in Southend's cultural hotspots.

With large and small sculptures located in picturesque hotspots across town, this FREE experience encourages you to get out and about and have fun while discovering the beauty of Southend.

After entertaining and bringing people together, the legacy of Hares About Town will continue for many years to come, as the sculptures will be auctioned to raise vital funds for a local charity Havens Hospices.

In partnership with Wild in Art.

Pick up a paper trail or download the Hares About Town App on Google Play or App Store for £1.99.

More about Havens Hospices

Havens Hospices provides palliative nursing and supportive care to adults and children living with complex or incurable conditions. The specialist Care Teams can support them and their family living throughout illness, death and bereavement, in the comfort of their own home and through our hospice services, Fair Havens, The J’s and Little Havens. At the end of the trail all the sculptures will be auctioned to raise vital funds for this local charity.

Leveret Trail

Running alongside the main trail the Leveret trail showcases the talents of local schools and community groups across the Borough. All the leverets are displayed inside Southend's Cultural venues, perfect for those rainy days!
