Citizen of Southend Award committee member, Mick Thwaites explains: “Sir Teddy was simply Mr. Southend. He cared about the town and its people, was very down to earth and a key member of the Citizens of Southend Awards panel. He was proud to be the town's MP since 1979 and in recognition of all he did to make the lives of others better, he was honoured with the Freedom of the Borough of Southend.
