Join the Halloween Parade

Some frightfully good fun is in store for families and visitors this autumn when the first ever Southend Halloween Parade takes place on Saturday 30 October.

The parade will feature exciting entries including the world-renowned Spark! street theatre drummers, huge hand-made puppets, a lighting spectacular and will culminate with a stunning fireworks finale.

But like the usual August Carnival, the Parade wouldn't be complete without the involvement of our local community, which is why we want you to get involved! Whether your dance troupe can spook-up and join on foot, or your company wants to decorate a float, as long as you're positively Halloweeny the more the merrier!

The cost of entry to the Parade is £15.00

Rules of Entry

  1. All entries must be Halloween themed and well lit.
  2. The theme of your entry must be family friendly.
  3. Only one vehicle per entry.
  4. No vehicle must be over 20ft (6.096 metres) in length
  5. All floats must have a safety rail on all open sides of lorry (for safety reasons) the entry could be refused entry to parade if no safety rail/ if safety rail deems to be unsecure.
  6. Person in charge of entry is responsible for their group’s safety if on board a float.
  7. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and if under 10 and onboard float/lorry they must be seated for their safety.
  8. All entries must be able to pass under the pier (16ft).
  9. Driver view must not be restricted.
  10. All cables for power or decoration must be secure at all times.
  11. If entry has vulnerable adults /. Children then at least one person must have a DBS check.
  12. If you have power on your entry you must have a fire extinguisher and first aid kit on board.
  13. No skates/ kangaroo legs /tractors.
  14. All entries must have 2 designated stewards who must attend a briefing at 16.00pm on the day of event at the control desk in start area. These designated stewards must also take directive if needed during the event from the southend community team.
  15. All drivers of vehicle must be insured to drive the vehicle in parade and must produce a copy of their insurance certificate and driving licence to prove this on the day of event to the control desk.
  16. If your vehicle is being rented, 2 people must be insured to drive it.
  17. No people are allowed to be carried on the back of vehicle (lorry/float/ on route to the start of the parade.
  18. All entry must have a risk assessment sheet done and produced at the control desk on day of event or this can be sent to the address or email on the entry  form before the event .
  19. No alcohol / drugs are allowed to be carried on the vehicle or consumed during the event any entry found to be doing so will be taken out of the parade . Random searches will be done by designated stewards / police / security and all items will be confiscated.
  20. No persons are allowed to jump on and off the vehicle while it is moving .
  21. Nothing must be thrown of vehicle in to the crowd this must be done by people that are walking (this is to stop children running up to vehicle and getting crushed by the wheels as even when the road has barriers people still lift their children over if something is being given away).
  22. No entry must arrive on site before 14.30pm.
  23. All  entries  must be on site by 16.00 latest.
  24. Road closures will go on at 16.00 until 20.00 so movement will be restricted.
  25.  All  entries will be judged between 16.00 and 16.30pm and there will be a small trophy for 1st 2nd and 3rd.
