Visit the Vulcan Classic Jet Day

10.00 am to 4.00 pm

See former Royal Air Force bomber Avro Vulcan XL426 up close at our Visit the Vulcan Classic Jets Day. You can walk round Vulcan XL426 and for an additional fee you can climb inside for a guided tour of the Vulcan’s cockpit.

As well as the Vulcan, there will be much to keep the whole family entertained. There will be examples of the weapons carried by the Vulcan during its time with the RAF, including examples of the type of 1,000 lb high explosive bomb the Vulcan dropped on Port Stanley airfield during the 1982 Falklands Conflict.

Cockpit sections of several classic jets from the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s will be present, including a Blackburn Buccaneer, McDonnell Douglas Phantom, SEPECAT Jaguar, Hawker Hunter and Supermarine Scimitar. A cockpit section of a de Haviland Chipmunk, the RAF’s basic trainer from the period, will also be attending. The cockpits will be FREE to sit in.

Squadron Leader Joe Marsden will host FREE “pilot presentations” throughout the day where he will talk about his experiences fly the Vulcan in RAF service.

The award-winning Thundersley brass band will keep everyone entertained during the day and the Southend Radio Control Flying Club will be bringing along some of its large-scale aircraft for visitors to see.

Darth Vader, R2D2 and more characters from Star Wars will be keeping everybody entertained courtesy of the UK Garrison Star Wars reenactors.

There will be burger, hot dog and sweet and savoury pancake stands as well as a craft beer stall, so no one will go hungry or thirsty. The Vulcan Restoration Trust’s souvenir stand will be open selling a selection of Vulcan souvenirs, including models, badges, patches, postcards, books and much more.

General admission is £8.00 for adults with accompanied under-16s £2.00. Tickets will be on sale on the gate (subject to lifting of Coronavirus regulations). Tickets are also available to buy in advance should you wish – full refunds will be given should for any reason the event not go ahead.

Cockpit visits are an additional £6.00 per person applicable to both adults and under-16s.

Cockpit visits take place every 15 minutes and are done on a timed ticket basis, so there is no need to stand and queue. We will be restricting the numbers of people allowed in the cockpit at any one time. The cockpit is a confined space so we will require everyone entering to wear a face covering unless they are unable to do so. Cockpit visit tickets are subject to availability and will only be on sale on the day. When they’re gone, they’re gone!

Entry and cockpit tours are free for Vulcan Restoration Trust members subject to presenting a valid VRT membership card.

Doors open at 10:00am  with last admission at 4:00pm

Sorry – due to airport rules, we regret that no pets can be admitted with the exception of assistance dogs.
