Essex journalist and author Tom King’s presentations have been a regular feature of the Festival since the earliest days. His particular field is character acting, described as “the realm of the scene stealers.” Character actors? These are the owners of those familiar faces; the bit part players whose names never appear above the main title. Yet they have enlivened – and sometimes saved – countless, films, especially in the field of comedy. This year, Tom focuses on character actors who have walked away with the Best Supporting Actor award at the Oscar ceremony, with clips from a widely divergent range of movie, kindly assembled by Chris Izod. Tom is the author of the best-selling ‘Thames Estuary Trail’, now in its second edition, and hopes that it won’t be too long before the motion picture version can be screened at the Festival!
