Focal Point Gallery is pleased to present a film screening of ‘Poppets’, a new film by artist Maz Murray. ‘Poppets’ is a surreal soap opera set in Basildon and the Estuary, following an Essex girl investigating malpractice in a local housing development, and two women who meet and fall in love on a night out at Bas Vegas. They are psychically linked to the story of two Plotlands women (as overshared to them by an old man in the smoking area) who visit their local witch to make a ‘poppet’.
Taking place in the gallery, this event is free to attend but booking is essential.
Excerpts of ‘Poppet’s’ will also be screened on Big Screen Southend throughout the exhibition ‘S for Southend’, which runs from 22 January to 20 February 2022.
Maz Murray (Basildon, 1995) is an artist working mostly in film, writing and performance. They studied at Chelsea College of Arts and have shown work at ICA, South London Gallery, Channel 4’s Random Acts and London Short Film Festival, among others.
