Join Lu Williams to design your own fridge magnets based upon what makes Southend feel like home to you.
Williams will introduce their new public commission before providing a brief history of the fridge magnet. Participants will then be given the opportunity to complete a worksheet, drawing their own fridge magnet design to reflect their ideas of Southend. Finally, they will then sculpt their design using air drying clay and attach a magnet to the back.
There will be another opportunity to take part in this workshop on Saturday 7 May, at Victoria Southend Shopping Centre. Join a drop-in workshop between 12pm and 3pm to make a fridge magnet design. This workshop is free and no booking is required, simply turn up and create your idea!
Designs from these workshops will help to inform Williams’ new public art commission for #Southend City Centre, which will transform the gateway to the High Street as approached from Southend Victoria Station with a fun and impactful vision. Taking a popular seaside souvenir of a great day out, Williams plans to recreate selected aspects and moments of Southend’s history, landmarks and events in the form of monumental fridge magnets. Commissioned by Focal Point Gallery and Creative Estuary.
Williams invites proposals from residents and community groups to decide the design and subject matter of these sculptural reliefs.
