‘Views of the Void’

An Exhibition by Julia Hart and Julie Parker with Open Arts Essex

2nd – 26th May 2019

‘Views of the Void’ – a brand new exhibition by local artists Julia Hart and Julie Parker with Open Arts Essex will soon be arriving in the Forum Space at the Forum, Southend.

The works on show will consist of an eclectic range of 2D art. The exhibition subject matter and theme is: ‘when mental illness changes the landscape of our lives’. The artwork will be exploring the effects of mental illness upon the individual and the people closest to them.

About the artists:

Julie and I met at an art club in Benfleet about six years ago we both love drawing and painting in a range of mediums and subject matter. For the past couple of years we have also exhibited in local Essex Art trails such as Leigh, Chelmsford and Billericay. Last year Julie started volunteering at Open Arts which is a community arts and mental health project run as one of the charities managed within the Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT). We have both experienced first-hand how mental ill health can be devastating and thought we’d like to express our experiences and thoughts through our art.

It would be lovely if the artwork is enjoyed and inspires; creating discussion and raising awareness of Mental Health issues. We hope the artwork and personal statements reach out to visitors and communicate the many difficulties facing ordinary people with mental illness and the people closest to them. We also hope that the exhibition helps highlight the vital role therapy services such as Open Arts play in recovery and how they need our support to keep on providing these services.
