Construction: A Conference on Identity Creation

Construction: A Conference on Identity Creation
02 November 2018
10:30 - 15:45
Beecroft Art Gallery, Victoria Avenue, Southend-on-Sea

How do we construct identities for ourselves? How is fashion a tool to project an image? How do we navigate society by constructing personas? How does art and photography allow us to create an image? Join us at the Beecroft Art Gallery for a day’s conference on image and identity creation. Featuring practitioners from the worlds of fashion curation, photography, fine art, fashion design and history this symposium will explore the various ways we construct identities. In a society obsessed with image, this timely conference brings together thought-provoking perspectives on how we ‘construct’. The day will end on a panel discussion with all speakers. The conference coincides with the fashion and fine art exhibition, Construction: An exhibition on clothing, image and persona at the Beecroft Art Gallery. Featuring fashion alongside fine art and newly commissioned photography the exhibition unpicks the way we create an identity for ourselves. There will be opportunities throughout the day to explore the exhibition. Tickets, £25: Includes lunch and refreshments.
