On Sunday 10th September 2017 the Lions Club of Leigh on Sea, with assistance from the Sea Scouts of Old Leigh will be holding the Leigh Regatta in the picturesque fishing village of Old Leigh. We are hoping for great weather and large crowds who will be able to enjoy live music, community stalls, arts & crafts and children’s entertainment.

There will be sailing races, pig races, rowing races, a dinghy tug-o-war, art competitions, face-painting, shanty-singers, clog-dancers and pirates as well as Punch and Judy, barbecues and sweet stalls. There will be story-telling for children and a Seaside Stage complete with deck-chairs and real ale bar alongside a selection of craft stalls.

The little ship from Dunkirk, Endeavour will be moored by Bell Wharf where many local charities will be showing the public what they have to offer.

The Scouts will be hosting a wide selection of family friendly stalls including their Krazy Kitchen and traditional Tea Tent and at the end of the day, the Scouts’ ‘Mayflower Stage’ will host a celebration of sea songs from a combination of local shanty crews (and pirates).

During the day there will be performances from The Hoy Shanty Crew, Mains’l Haul, Rom Shanty Crew, Captain Morgan’s Rum Do, Arfur Do and the Toe Rags, Grand Reunion, Thameside Mummers, Cockleshell Clog, , Emerald Hill, Mick & The Boogie Band, Whatever Next, Mucky Dennis & The Grifters and many others.

Thanks to C2C and the Lazy Bones Boot Fair, there will also be free parking in the car park behind Leigh Railway Station which is only a short scenic walk past the cockle sheds to Old Leigh. There will also be limited free parking for blue badge holders on Belton Bridge.

Several local organizations and many artistes and performers have supported Leigh Regatta this year making it a true local community event with free admission to the public.

Whether you’re eight or eighty, Old Leigh and the Leigh Regatta will be the place to be on Sunday 10th September.
