By Train:

Two direct train lines operate between London and Southend: the c2c line from Fenchurch Street to Shoeburyness Station (this train also stops at Southend Central) and the Greater Anglia line from Liverpool Street to Southend Victoria. On both lines the journey into Southend-on-Sea will take approximately 45 minutes to an hour.

The closest train station to Barge Pier is Shoeburyness Train Station via the c2c Fenchurch Street line. Barge Pier is approximately a 20 minute walk away from Shoeburyness Train Station.

If you arrive at Southend Victoria, the journey to Barge Pier can then be made via the Number 9 bus from outside the station or by walking to Southend Central Train Station and taking the c2c line directly to Shoeburyness Train Station.

By Car:

There are two major roads linking Southend-on-Sea to the M25: the A127 & A13. From the north, Southend is accessible via the A1, M11, M25 & A127 (approx. 20 miles from M25 Junction 29) & from the south, Southend-on-Sea can be reached via the M25 (Junction 30) or from the Dartford Tunnel & A13.

It is recommended that visitors use Sat Nav Postcode: SS3 9HG to Southend-on-Sea.

On arriving in Southend-on-Sea, it is advised that visitors follow the black and yellow event signage for directions to Poppies: Wave in Shoeburyness and parking near to Barge Pier.

Parking: There are several pay-and-display car parks located near to Barge Pier. Each requires a short walk to Poppies: Wave:

  1. Shoebury Common South – 10-15 minute walk

  2. Shoebury Common North – 10-15 minute walk

  3. Shoebury East Beach – 20 minute walk. If you enjoy walking, then the walk from this car park along the coast offers you the opportunity to experience the historic elements of Gunners Park.

  4. Thorpe Esplanade - 20 minute walk.

Blue Badge Holders

Blue Badge Holder parking is available in all the car parks listed above. We have also allocated around 10 Blue Badge Holder parking bays close to Barge Pier. These bays can be found at the end of Ness Road which is adjacent to the Coast Guard Station and Shoebury Common South.

By Bus

The main bus route which operates near to Barge Pier is the Number 9 bus by Arriva, running via Rayleigh Station, Eastwood, Southend Airport, Southend Victoria (Train Station), Southend Town Centre, Eastern Esplanade, Thorpe Bay, North Shoebury and Shoeburyness. This is the main route running near to Barge Pier. There are bus stops at the junction of Church Road and Ness Road, which are a 10 minute walk away from Poppies: Wave. Most bus services in the Southend-on-Sea arrive at the Southend Travel Centre and the Number 9 runs every twelve minutes throughout the day (Stop G). 

Please alight the Number 9 at East Beach, which is near to Shoeburyness Train Station, for a more scenic walk along the coast to Poppies: Wave.

 

By Bicycle

National Cycling Network Route 16 connects Basildon with Shoeburyness along the Southend seafront off-road cycle route from Chalkwell to Shoeburyness. Temporary cycle parking will be provided close to Barge Pier.

Coach drop-off and parking:

Coaches are advised to follow the black and yellow event signage on arriving in Southend for directions to Poppies: Wave. Coaches will be directed to Thorpe Hall Avenue Roundabout and then to coach drop off and parking on Ness Road in Shoeburyness.
