The People's Gallery (formally called the Forum Space) is a large area located on the ground floor of the Forum, Southend-on-Sea building. Attracting both customers and students, the Forum, Southend-on-Sea caters to a wide audience who enjoy the People's Gallery as an attractive area to relax and engage. With one curved wall leading the viewer in, and one flat wall at the rear, the gallery can be utilised for one exhibition artist, or two at a time. Well lit and spacious, exhibitor’s works may be viewed in their best light.

Each year a Selection Panel takes place to plan the Forum Space exhibition programme, which runs between the coming April 1st to March 30th. The Selection Panel seeks to set a fresh and interesting programme of exhibitions, to showcase the best artistic talent in Southend-on-Sea and beyond. For the first time the selection panel will be decided by the public via the Visit Southend Facebook page.

How to Apply

Step 1: Space Suitability

If you have not visited the People’s Gallery before, it is advised you do so before applying. This is to confirm the Space is suitable for your artwork. The gallery consists of the concrete Curved Wall and the white flat Porthole Wall, and utilises a hanging system of rods and hooks, suitable for framed artwork or canvases only. Step 3: Apply Via Email

Fill in the application form and return it with up to 3 images of your artwork to culture& It is free to apply.

The application process will be live for a limited time Friday 1st November - Saturday 30th November 2019. Applications received after the closure date will not be considered.


Step 4: The Voting Process

Applications will be grouped according to one of their preferred months and displayed on the Visit Southend Facebook page.

The public will be invited to vote for their favourite artwork and the winning artist (or artists if they have selected to display on one wall only) for each month will be offered the space.

Your personal details will not be shared with the public. They will only be able to see your artwork and details about it such as exhibition title, artwork medium and any further details you have provided.
